Changing Lives
CSA makes a difference in the lives of people who are coming here, whether it’s for a class, a group, or to celebrate their Spirit on Sunday. Sometimes it’s a seed that’s planted and takes a minute to grow.
Back on the first teen group,in June of 1999 Angel Lopez was one of the young boys, a soon to be 8th grader that joined our Teen Awareness Group (TAG). On one of our first events, while playing ball behind the church a window was broken in Rev. Georgia’s office and TAG created the Angel Fund (because Angel threw the ball). This fund was a way to generate money and the youth group could take responsibility for the cost of the broken window.
Angel's mother, Eva Arrizon, was adamantly opposed to Angel (one of her three sons who attended TAG) playing football due to her fear of injuries. She told him that he would have to raise the money for his football uniform and associated costs.
So......Angel came to TAG and asked if the Angel Fund could be used to sponsor him to play football. The TAG group voted and agreed and we raised more money to pay for his football fees.
This past Sunday morning his mother, Eva called to tell me that Angel was signed onto the semi pro league, the Placerville Bears. He is currently in Las Vegas, NV training with the team. Angel Lopez and the Angel Fund started with an "accident" that seemed like a wrong-doing or even mischievous behavior of "those teens". And from that Angel credits TAG with supporting him to make it to Semi Professional football!
