“There is no social change fairy. There is only the change made by the hands of individuals.” Winona LaDuke
-Are you ready to be the change? -Do you understand privilege? Know how to leverage it? -Do you want to help confront systemic racism? -Do you long to participate in collective healing with those on the same path?
We invite you to join our dynamic community and learn practical action steps from Dr. Singh to help: ●navigate daily and past experiences of racism, ●challenge internalized negative messages and privileges, ●handle feelings of stress, shame, and trauma, ●and begin to heal.
Most of our work will be based on the text "The Racial Healing Handbook” written by Dr. Singh. Along your journey you will gain tools to develop profound racial consciousness and conscientiousness and begin the healing from grief and trauma. Through this healing community, you will acquire the building blocks to heal in a world still filled with racial microaggressions and discrimination.
The course will be facilitated by Aimée Zenzele Barnes with the support of Ayanna Kiburi, Gretchen Jung and the CSA Ujima Ministry.
Aimée Zenzele Barnes brings a wealth of experience to facilitating this class for CSA. Aimée has 18 years of education administration at San Francisco State University where she served as Interim Director of Diversity and Student Equity and Interim Executive Director of Associated Students. In addition, she has served on a variety of community-based boards including the SF Black Coalition on AIDS and Center for Spiritual Awareness. Service for community, faith-based, and higher education has fostered a deep understanding of the vital role dialogue, life-long learning, and change management play in promoting equity and inclusivity in public service. Prior to the first class you will be sent a participant package which provides all the links you will need in one place, tracking information, and more.
If possible, purchase the required text from a black owned bookstore. The Racial Healing Handbook: Practical Activities to Help You Challenge Privilege, Confront Systemic Racism, and Engage in Collective Healing by Dr. Anneliese A Singh
Cost is free, however donations to Center for Spiritual Awareness are encouraged.
