Mental illness touches nearly every family, yet the stigma surrounding it often keeps people from seeking help, sharing their story, or even naming what they're going through. Stop Stigma Sacramento was created to change that, and The Center for Spiritual Awareness is proud to bring awareness to this important work.
Stop Stigma brings awareness to the stigma that those living with mental illness so often face. Rather than lectures or clinical presentations, the events center on real voices and real experiences.
Each gathering runs about one hour and features three speakers who share seven to ten minute talks about their own lived experience with mental illness. These aren't rehearsed sound bites. They're honest, personal reflections meant to build understanding and connection.
One of the things that makes Stop Stigma so powerful is the range of perspectives shared. Talks can focus on specific cultures and lifestyles, recognizing that the experience of mental illness, and the stigma attached to it, looks different depending on someone's background, community, and life circumstances. This approach helps attendees see themselves in the stories being told, while also opening a window into experiences unlike their own.
At CSA, we believe spiritual growth and mental wellness are deeply connected. Creating space for honest conversation, without shame or judgment, is part of how we support one another on the path toward wholeness. Events like Stop Stigma remind us that healing often begins the moment someone feels safe enough to speak.
