YouthSpirit

Designed to honor the Great Spirit within ourselves, each other and the land.

What is YouthSpirit?

It’s a cross between a retreat and camping trip.

As always, our spiritual work will leave dogma in the dust and focus opening our minds and hearts using music, laughter, and exploration of the land and each other.  Challenging ourselves while honoring our limits.

Javier Zuniga and his staff will facilitate workshops throughout this retreat to find Spirit in adventure, introspection, ceremony, and greater empowerment.

In many ways the land itself encourages spiritual work.  We will be camping on the banks of the Bear River with plenty of time for swimming and rock skipping and just hanging along the banks.  There is an amazing grotto with a waterfall for a beautiful night hike.

What's this place like?

We have reserved the group campground right on the grassy riverbanks.  This is a very rustic campground with no showers or electricity for curling irons.   A perfect opportunity to experience a closeness with the land.  There is no cell coverage, just you and the squirrels.

What about food?

Members of the Center for Spiritual Awareness will make simple meals (all water, food, and stoves must be hauled in).  Nobody will starve and we will be able to accommodate vegetarians, carnivores, and vegans as long as we know in advance of each teen’s needs.

What's the cost?

The cost will be $100 per camper.  If you have more than one teen eligible to attend in your family and you need financial assistance, please see Javier.

Who can come?

Teens who have graduated from the 6th grade and have just completed the 12th grade are eligible to attend.  They must have permission from parent or guardian.  Teens do not have to have any affiliation with a faith community to attend.  There will be a conduct contract for each teen to sign. There will be a maximum of 100 teens.

What equipment is needed?

There is a checklist below, but lack of equipment should not keep anyone home.  We can rustle up extra sleeping bags and tents.
